Currently in Spain there are 53 physical casinos spread over 17 autonomous communities. The activities of each establishment are controlled at the regional level, the administrations of each community are in charge of issuing licenses to open a casino in their territory, supervising their activities and collecting taxes. The total number of physical casinos within the autonomous community, as well as the number of establishments of the same operator, is limited.
Each face-to-face gambling establishment establishes its own rules, however, there are a series of common requirements for all casinos in Spain:
- Dress code. It is forbidden to enter a casino wearing sports clothes and shoes, shorts, bathing suits, flip flops, caps and motorcycle helmets.
- Restaurant. Free drinks, bar services and a restaurant with mostly Mediterranean cuisine are offered.
- Games. In each casino there are several tables for roulette, blackjack, point and bank, sometimes poker tables, there are slot machines and electronic roulette.
To enter the casino an identity document must be presented to verify age. Unlike online casinos in Spain, physical casinos accept foreign players who present their passport at the reception.
The minimum and maximum bets in casino games are established by each establishment. Information on the rules of each game, hours, minimum or maximum bets, chip prices, is offered at the reception. Exchange of foreign currencies into euros is usually offered.
